An Atlantic City man has been charged in the February shooting of a local rapper.
Cory Wilburn, 30, was already jailed in an unrelated matter when an investigation by the city's Violent Crimes Unit led to the new charges, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Police were called to the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue at 10:31 a.m. by
an alert from the ShotSpotter audio-gunshot detection system.
They found no victim at that time, Fair said.
A short time later, they found that a gunshot victim had walked into the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
Muhammad Griffin, 35, was shot in the abdomen and had to undergo surgery, according to a family member.
Griffin released a video honoring his slain brother Uthman Griffin on Jan. 13, the sixth anniversary of Uthman's death.
Wilburn is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
He is currently in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
Wilburn — whose first name is also listed as Corey in some records — has been in jail since just after the shooting, when he was sentenced for simple assault, according to court records. He also was on drug court at the time of the shooting, but was terminated from the program March 1.
