An Atlantic City teen was arrested after he allegedly robbed the same man twice in less than an hour.
Officer Nicholas Grasso was stopped just before 10 p.m. Tuesday, and told that a man was being assaulted by a group of teenagers in the 4000 block of Ventnor Avenue, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.
Grasso found the 33-year-old resident who said he was assaulted after he tried to stop the group from harassing an elderly man. The man's cell phone was taken.
The victim was driven around the area to try to find the suspects, but no one was found, Fair said.
The man later called his cell phone and the person who answered arranged to meet him at Dover and Ventnor avenues to buy his phone back, the victim later told police.
But when the suspect arrived at about 10:30 p.m., he threatened the victim with a knife and stole his money, according to the report.
The victim then saw Grasso, and told him the suspect was on Ventnor Avenue, Fair said.
The teen ran as Grasso tried to stop him, according to the report. After about a half-block pursuit, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.
He allegedly had a large knife in his waistband.
The 17-year-old was charged with armed robbery, robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and resisting arrest.
He was taken to Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center.
