Atlantic County assistant prosecutor named state bar's Young Lawyer of the Year

  • News

An assistant prosecutor for the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has been named Young Lawyer of the Year by the New Jersey State Bar Association.
Brett Yore “has volunteered a lot of his personal time for the benefit of our local and legal communities,” Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner said in announcing the award.
Yore was born and raised in Cape May County, where both parents were high school music teachers.
He studied writing at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School in New York City, with a concentration in poetry and fiction.
Yore still enjoys using his creative side with writing and music in his rare free time, he said told the Atlantic County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division in an interview last year.

The purpose of being a prosecutor is not to punish someone, it's to do justice.

He graduated from Rutgers University-Camden in 2011, and clerked for Judge John Rauh. It was then that he got to see the different sides of the law, and was drawn to the prosecution.
“Because the purpose of being a prosecutor is not to punish someone, it’s to do justice,” he said in the March 2018 interview. “As a prosecutor, I can use the position not only to help the victim, but also the community, and sometimes, even the defendants themselves.”
Yore is vice president for the Cape May County Bar Association, a trustee for the Atlantic County Bar Association and represents both county’s for the state Bar’s Young Lawyers Division.
“We congratulate Brett on this incredible honor,” Tyner said.
