Atlantic City police officers rescued a driver after she nearly struck them with her car.
Officers Franco Sydnor and Michelle Clark were on the scene of a one-car crash nearly mile marker 56.2 on Route 30 eastbound just after 8 p.m. Friday, according to the report.
The right lane was closed due to debris in the road from the crash, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Clark's marked patrol car was in the right lane with its lights activated, with Sydnor's nearby also with its emergency lights on, Fair said.
Clark was talking with the driver and tow truck driver Jeffrey Spence when a vehicle failed to move over and crashed into Clark's car. She was able to get both people out of the way so no one was struck, according to the report.
After striking the police car, the vehicle flipped onto its side and the driver, a 72-year-old woman from Atlantic City, was trapped inside, Fair said.
Sydnor broke the window to gain entry into the vehicle.
Spence got into the vehicle and lifted the driver up to another Good Samaritan who stopped to assist, Fair said.
The Good Samaritan passed the woman to the officers, and left before officers could get his name.
The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of her injuries.
Both the patrol car and the woman’s car sustained significant damage.
The roadway was closed for about an hour.
