#YayoftheDay for March 25th:
Legendary singer Aretha Franklin, aka The Queen of Soul, would have been 78 years old today. Franklin, who passed away in 2018, gave us some of the biggest R&B hits of the 60s, 70s, and even into the 80's and 90's. The Memphis, Tennessee native's first album (gospel) came out in 1956 when she was just 14.
According to stereogum.com, Franklin had a staggering 73 songs on Billboard Hot 100, but only two number one hits - her 1987 duet with George Michael, "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)", and perhaps her signature song (included in this article) ... "Respect". Boy, did she have plenty of that from her millions of fans. We miss you, Aretha. Happy Birthday!
