A retired Atlantic City police sergeant who once saved a suicidal man from a parking garage ledge was killed in a crash Thursday.
Joseph Falcone, 54, was riding his motorcycle west on Zion Road in Egg Harbor Township at about 11:45 a.m., when a truck made a left into his path, police said.
William Wellington, 39, of the township, was making a left onto Central Avenue, when the crash happened.
Falcone, a veteran police officer, sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one else involved in the crash was injured. Zion Road was shut down and detoured for approximately three hours so the crash could be investigated and cleared.
Falcone was a well-respected officer who was honored with a Valor award after he dramatically rescued a suicidal man in 2017.
The rescue was caught on video.
Falcone leaves behind a wife, currently an Atlantic City police sergeant, and their three children.
Sgt. Lawrence Graham, and Officers Robert Moran and Louis Poletis are investigating the crash.
