An Egg Harbor Township man has been indicted in the drug-induced death of a man earlier this year.
Noel Castillo, 32, has been jailed since Feb. 25, for violating his 2018 probation after drugs were found at his home, according to information provided at his detention hearing in March.
At that time, Assistant Prosecutor Allison Eiselen told the judge that investigators came to Castillo's home as part of an investigation into the overdose death of a township man identified at the time only as J.S.
J.S. has now been publicly identified as 33-year-old Jeffrey Schneider, who was found dead in his Ridge Avenue home on Feb. 18.
At the time, police found a used hypodermic needle and approximately six folds of suspected heroin, according to the affidavit.
They also found a cell phone with texts between Schneider and an N.C., who is allegedly Castillo.
Schneider's mother and girlfriend told investigators that Castillo was her son's drug dealer.
A search of Castillo's home led to a digital scale with white powdery residue, eight cell phones and $3,070 in cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales, Eiselen said in court in March.
A grand jury indicted Castillo on Monday on various drug charges along with first-degree strict liability for a drug-induced death, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill announced Tuesday.
He remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
