Man gets 98 years in deadly Atlantic City crime spree

  • News

A Philadelphia convicted in a deadly Atlantic City crime spree was sentenced to 98 years in prison Tuesday.

Avery Bracey was found guilty in August of killing a 21-year-man and wounding another during the spree in January 2019.

Police were called to the Sunset Inn at 8:44 p.m. Jan. 4, for the report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found Ky’Lee Haynes wounded inside the Sunset Inn. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus, where he was pronounced dead.

Avery was arrested and an investigation connected him to two other incidents, including a shooting in the first block of North Florida Avenue in which a man was shot in the leg.

Bracey also was convicted of brandishing a gun at the Popeyes at 1740 Atlantic Ave., after he ordered food.
He was sentenced to 50 years in prison for felony murder in Haynes killing and must serve at least 42½ years of that under the No Early Release Act.
Bracey also was convicted of first-degree robbery, aggravated assault, criminal restraint, attempted witness tampering, along with several weapons offenses, including certain person not to possess a weapon.
All totaled, he must serve nearly 80 years in prison, acting Atlantic County Prosecutor Cary Shill said.

NOTE: The Atlantic County Justice Facility does not release mugshots under an order put in place by the former county prosecutor.
