Two men charged in Atlantic City gunfight

  • News

Two men are now jailed after they allegedly shot at one another in an Atlantic City gunfight.

No one was injured in the shooting.

Officers were called to the 1500 block of Pacific Avenue at 2:38 a.m. Nov. 1, by an alert from the ShotSpotter audio-gunshot notification system.

During the investigation, police received several anonymous tips from the tip411 anonymous texting system that provided critical information in the investigation, Lt. Kevin Fair said Wednesday.

Both Aires and Smiley were charged with two counts each of aggravated assault, along with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and certain persons not to possess a weapon.

Aires, 29, of Pleasantville, was arrested Nov. 30 at the State Parole Board Office in Pleasantville.

He had a detention hearing Dec. 14, and was ordered held.

Smiley, 40, of Atlantic City, was arrested Tuesday, and is currently in the Atlantic County Justice Facility awaiting his detention hearing.

NOTE: The Atlantic County Justice Facility does not release mugshots under a prior order by the former Atlantic County prosecutor.
