Man arrested with two stolen guns in Atlantic City

  • News

A Trenton man was arrested Wednesday with two guns reported stolen from other states, police said.

Atlantic City police were called to the 400 block of Wisteria Road at 12:44 p.m., for a man that was threatened by an armed man, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

Officers Jerard Ingenito and Al Herbert arrived to see Anthony Matthews walking away from his car, according to the report. He matched the description of the armed man.

Matthews was found with a bag containing two loaded handguns, Fair said. Both had been reported stolen from other states.

The 30-year-old was charged with two counts each of unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and certain person not to possess a weapon. He also was charged with possession of hollow-point ammunition.

Matthews was sentenced to two years’ probation for a 2016 gun charge. He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

He also was arrested in a domestic incident in 2017, the Trentonian reported at the time.

Matthews and the then-22-year-old woman were involved in an argument over a child that turned physical, according to the report attributed to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Matthews allegedly punched the woman in the face and pushed over a television that nearly struck the child’s head.

It was not clear where that case stood.
