Two men arrested with loaded guns in Atlantic City

  • News

Two Atlantic City men were arrested with loaded guns in separate incidents with three days, police said.
Both men have criminal histories that prevent them from possessing a weapon, including one who just completed a gun-related prison term last year, records show.
Jonathan Anderson was released from prison in November, after serving about 1½ years on weapons charges from 2017 and 2018, according to the state Department of Corrections website. His photo was also posted.
The 27-year-old man was arrested just after 6 a.m. Friday, after police were called to an apartment building on the first block of North Boston Avenue for a trespasser, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Police were told Anderson was sitting in a hallway charging his phone and in possession of a handgun, Fair said.
The officers found Anderson on the third floor, but he failed to comply with directions and made several attempts to reach toward the pocket of his sweatshirt, according to the report.
Anderson eventually complied and a loaded handgun was found in his sweatshirt pocket, Fair said.
Two days earlier, police were investigating a case of a man in possession of a shotgun.
Stacey Davenport, 57, was seen riding his bicycle in the 800 block of Maryland Avenue, carrying a tactical style bag, Fair said.
The detectives stopped Davenport and he was arrested after a loaded shotgun was found inside the bag, according to the report.
Davenport also had a small amount of heroin and cocaine, according to the charges.
Both were charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and certain person not to possess a weapon.
Davenport was additionally charged with two counts of drug possession.
Anderson was charged with criminal trespassing.
Both were sent to the Atlantic County Justice Facility, Fair said.
But only Anderson was listed as an inmate there Monday.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Atlantic City police at (609) 347-5766.  Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.

NOTE: The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office still maintains a directive put in place by the former prosecutor the prohibits the jail to release mugshots. The photo above is from the state Department of Corrections.
