A Pleasantville school was locked down for a short time Wednesday afternoon as police searched for two suspects nearby.
Police were called to the area of New and Delilah roads at about 1:45 p.m. for the report of a stolen vehicle, Lt. Stacey Schlachter said.
The vehicle stolen from an Egg Harbor City man was seen in the area of Mill Road and California Avenue, where Officers Michael Mabkhouti and JonMarshall Robinson tried to stop the vehicle, according to the report.
The driver, later identified as Devin Williams, refused to stop, and there was a motor vehicle chase that was quickly terminated, Schlachter said.
Sgt. Michael Figueroa later saw the vehicle with two men inside in the area New and Delilah road stopped in traffic, according to the report.
Officers checked the area and found the vehicle unoccupied at Leeds and Linden avenues.
Witnesses saw the driver and his passenger, Justin Davis, run into a wooded area, the report states.
Nearby Leeds Avenue School was placed on lockdown while officers set up a perimeter and conducted a K-9 track by Officer Jeffery Vangas and his partner, Titus.
Officer Victor Nelson saw Williams and Davis near a wooded area of West Thompson Avenue, and the two men were arrested without further incident, Schlachter said.
Williams, 23, of Galloway Township, was charged with receiving stolen property and eluding.
Davis, 18, also of Galloway, was charged with conspiracy.
Both were released on summonses.
