Atlantic City man charged with attempted murder in stabbing on Boardwalk

An Atlantic City man is charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of an acquaintance Tuesday on the Boardwalk.

The 63-year-old victim from the city was stabbed in the 2800 block of the Boardwalk in the area of the Tropicana, police said. His identity is not being released.

Officer Huan Le arrived at the scene before 11 a.m. and found him bleeding profusely from stab wounds to his torso, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus with life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

Ronald Aponte, 64, was seen stabbing the victim multiple times, witnesses told police. He then discarded the knife in a trashcan and fled east.

Police were able to get Aponte's address, and Officers John Bell and Zion Pitts arrested him at his home without incident.

He is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purposes. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.

NOTE: The Atlantic County jail does not release mugshots under an order by the former prosecutor.
