Atlantic City man with warrants arrested with loaded 'ghost gun,' police say

  • News

An Atlantic City man with outstanding warrants for assault and harassment was found with a loaded gun Friday, police said.

Alton El, 41, had active warrants from April, court records show.

Complaints about loitering put Surveillance Center personnel's focus on the 1300 block of Atlantic Avenue just after 4 p.m., Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.

El was seen acting suspiciously, so they tracked him after he left the area on a bicycle and headed south on Tennessee Avenue and then west on Pacific.

Officers Ivan Cruz and Michael Kragh found El at Arkansas and Pacific avenues, and found he had active warrants for his arrest.

After he was taken into custody without incident, the officers found a loaded handgun in a fanny pack he was carrying, according to the report.

The handgun was loaded with hollow-point bullets and determined to be a "ghost gun," or one that lacks a serial number making it difficult to trace.

El also had a small amount of suspected crack cocaine.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a ghost gun, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

El was also charged with possession of a weapon by a certain person due to his criminal history, which includes a three-year sentence on drugs from 2010.
