An investigation into the report of a man with a gun led to a loaded handgun and four arrests, police said.
Detectives Eric Evans and Christopher Dodson saw a man matching the description of the gunman driving as a passenger in a pickup truck Wednesday morning, Sgt. Paul Aristizabal said.
The stopped the truck in the first block of South Morris Avenue and ordered Brian Lott out of the vehicle, according to the report.
Lott tried to resist and ran, but Barrett was able to get the satchel Lott was carrying.
Officer Jonathan Walsh, who responded to backup the stop, saw Lott running north on Morris and intervened, Aristizabal said. Lott was taken in after a brief struggle.
He was found with three wax folds of suspected heroin and $50 in cash.
The satchel had a handgun with a high-capacity magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition, Aristizabal said. The gun had no serial number, which is known as a "ghost gun" because of the difficulty in tracking it.
There was approximately 1.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine inside the truck, according to the report.
The driver, John Brown, allegedly had 1.4 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine on him.
He and the other two passengers, Rachel Kirkpatrick and Steve Montgomery, were charged with drug offenses.
Lott, 18, of Atlantic City, was charged with drug and gun offenses and, along with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction. He is in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
Brown, 54, and Kirkpatrick, 27, both of Atlantic City, were jailed on outstanding warrants for criminal trespassing, court records show.
Montgomery, 54, of Pittstown, Hunterdon County, was released on a summons.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS (2 counts) and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Brown was also found to have multiple active warrants for his arrest.
ARRESTED: Steve Montgomery, 54, of Pittstown, NJ.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia.
ARRESTED: Racheal Kirkpatrick, 27, of Atlantic City.
CHARGES: Possession of CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia. Kirkpatrick was also found to have an active warrant for her arrest.
Lott, Brown, and Kirkpatrick were remanded to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Montgomery was released on a summons pending a future date. The public is reminded that all charges are mere allegations, and the accused are considered innocent until proven guilty.
