Six juveniles arrested in separate Atlantic City carjackings

  • News

Six Atlantic City teens were arrested in two separate carjackings within the past three weeks.

The investigation began just before 9 p.m. Nov. 29, after police were called to the beach block of Raleigh Avenue, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

A group of boys assaulted the 68-year-old victim told police and stole the person's vehicle, according to the report.

The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Pleasantville police found the stolen vehicle the next day, Fair said.

During the investigation, it was found that two juveniles had runaway, and police later linked them to the carjacking, Fair said.

Three additional suspects were identified.

Two of the suspects — ages 16 and 17 — were then involved in a carjacking at Ocean Casino Resort at 10:49 p.m. Saturday.

In that incident, a 72-year-old Brick, Ocean County, resident was pulled from their vehicle by three boys, Fair said. The teens fled the garage in the vehicle.

The victim was not injured.

Security personnel were able to provide officers with surveillance footage.

Patrol officers saw the vehicle a short time later, leading to a pursuit out of Atlantic City, according to the report.

Police ended the chase due to a risk to the public, Fair said.

The vehicle was found at 12:25 the next morning, in the 700 block of Arctic Avenue.

Officers Moustafa Maarouf and Jennifer Sanchez located three boys in the area, including the two from the previous incident and another 16-year-old, according to the report.

Two 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old were charged in the Raleigh Avenue incident.

All six were taken to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.
