Father and son charged in theft of Pleasantville fire bell

  • News

A Pleasantville father and son have been charged in connection with the theft of the historic bronze bell reported stolen from the city's Fire Department last week.

The bell was last seen Oct. 13, and discovered missing at about 1 p.m. last Tuesday, Capt. Stacey Schlachter said.

Portions of the bell were recovered Monday, after a search warrant was executed.

John Jordan II, 61, and his 44-year-old son, Joseph Redd, were charged with receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. Both were released on summonses.

The portion of the bell that was already removed was returned by an unidentified citizen, Schlachter said.

"This case could not have been solved without the outstanding cooperation and tips on part of the many residents within the city of Pleasantville," she said.
