Absecon man released in stalking found dead in A.C.

  • News

An Absecon man released from jail after pleading guilty to stalking and cyber harassment was found dead in an Atlantic City casino hotel over the weekend.

John LeVance, 49, pleaded guilty last Wednesday to stalking as a repeat offender, cyber harassment, contempt of court and invasion of privacy.

Within days of his release, he was found dead at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Atlantic City.

Police confirmed the death but are not releasing any other information since it is not considered suspicious, Lt. Kevin Fair told BreakingAC.

LeVance started stalking the victim a day after he was sentenced to probation in June 2022, for stalking the same woman.

The victim reported dozens of unwanted and obscene phone calls, texts, emails and social media contacts that continued until his arrest. LeVance had been jailed since Dec. 24.

He faced a maximum of 10 years in prison, and was scheduled for sentencing Nov. 1.

Neither the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office nor the Office of the Public Defender would comment on the death.
