An Egg Harbor Township graduate is heading to Baltimore.
Yvandy Rigby did not wind up drafted this weekend. But the linebacker coming out of Temple University still is headed to the NFL.
The Ravens picked him up as an undrafted free agent.
It seems a fated pick, considering how Rigby's story harkens to Michael Oher, the offensive tackle that inspired the book and blockbuster film, "The Blind Side."
Oher won a Super Bowl with the Ravens.
"Excited and grateful," Rigby wrote on "X," with a picture of him in a shirt emblazoned with Ravens.
Rigby was born into poverty in Turks and Caicos, a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea, Rigby immigrated to the United States with his older sister in 2014, knowing nothing about American football or American life in general.
He enrolled at Atlantic City High School his freshman year before transferring to Egg Harbor Township, where he met Coach Kevin Stetser.
He started playing football at EHT, quickly establishing himself as a dynamic threat on the field, both offensively as a wide receiver and defensively as a linebacker and defensive back.
While attending high school, Rigby lived with Stetser, his wife and two children.
“He's been eating all my food,” Stetser cracked in a 2018 interview with South Jersey Glory Days.
Rigby declared for the draft via Instagram back in December, and although he did not participate in the NFL Draft Combine, NFL personnel were able to watch him at Temple's Pro Day earlier this month
There, he ran a 4.62-second 40-yard dash, which would put him in the Top 10 of all linebackers in the 2024 draft class.
