An Atlantic City man allegedly crashed into a parked car and exited his vehicle holding an open bottle of beer before attacking the officer who tried to arrest him.
Dwahn Davis, 39, ran several red lights while speeding down the 1600 block of Arctic Avenue at about 12:27 a.m. Monday, Lt. Kevin Fair said.
Officer John Bell tried to stop the vehicle at Tennessee and Caspian avenues, but Davis only slowed and did not pull over until he hit a parked vehicle, according to the report.
Davis exited the vehicle with a bottle of beer in his hand that he was drinking from, Fair said. He then failed to answer any questions, including the spelling of his name.
Davis grabbed the officer's fingers as he tried to place him in custody, twisting them and trying to run, Fair said.
Once in custody, Davis kicked the officer, threatened others on the scene and spit and numerous officers, according to the report. He continued to spit in the rear of the police car as he was being driven to the station.
His behavior allegedly continued back at the Clayton G. Graham Public Safety Building.
Davis purposely urinated throughout the holding cell, Fair said.
He is now in the Atlantic County Justice Facility charged with hindering apprehension, three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, two counts of criminal mischief and refusal to be fingerprinted.
Davis also was given multiple driving citations, including driving while intoxicated, careless driving, driving without a license, driving with revoked registration and driving without an insurance card.
He has pending driving tickets for speeding, careless driving and driving with a suspended license from July, court records show.
Davis will remain jailed pending a detention hearing.
