Technology is credited with helping Atlantic City police arrest a man in a stabbing Saturday.

Police were called to the 3200 block of Fairmount Avenue at 8:48 a.m. for reports of a man bleeding after a fight, Capt. Kevin Fair said.

It was later determined that the 25-year-old city resident had been stabbed, according to the report. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Surveillance Center personnel were able to obtain video of the assault, the suspect and the vehicle the suspect fled in, Fair said.

Officer La’Quay Green Sr. then used the department’s automated license plate reader system to learn that the vehicle had entered Atlantic City earlier in the morning on Route 30. The officer then positioned himself on Route 30 and, at 9:25 a.m., he saw it leaving the city.

Jamil Anderson, 35, was taken into custody, Fair said. A knife that is believed to have been used in the attack was recovered.

Anderson appeared briefly in court Monday, via video from the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Judge Richard Russell told Anderson he had a detention hearing set for Thursday, so he could not be released at this time.

"Can I ask why was that is, Sir?" Anderson asked of the detention hearing. "I don’t even have priors or anything."

The judge explained that, since the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office made a motion for detention, Russell had no power to release him.

Anderson is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
