Vineland woman released on summons in fatal hit-and-run

  • Crime-Courts

A Vineland woman is charged in a hit-and-run that left a homeless man dead last summer.

Brittany Riddle, 30, was charged Thursday with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident. She was released on a summons.

Vineland police were called to the area of North Delsea Drive near West Wheat at about 12:30 a.m. June 14, for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on the shoulder of the road.

Bruce Byron, 60, was found dead.

Byron was known in the area, with many remembering him loving music and playing the guitar.

The preliminary investigation revealed a gray in color Nissan Altima model year range 2013-2015 with an unknown registration was traveling north on Delsea Drive when it struck Byron, who was pushing a shopping cart in the northbound lane of North Delsea Drive.

The passenger side bumper, fog light housing and passenger side mirror were left at the scene.

The vehicle also was expected to have front passenger-side damage.

The investigation led by Officer Christian Morale is ongoing.
