Two arrested in robberies that led to shooting in Atlantic City

  • News
Two men have been arrested in connection with
a June 14 shooting that wounded a man. Raheem Miller, 24, was shot in the incident that began with a robbery inside the Taco Bell/Kentucky Fried Chicken in the 1500 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said. Ladell Mayers was arrested at the time with a stolen handgun but police said at the time he was not the shooter. An investigation led by the city's Violent Crimes Unit found he was actually the victim of an assault and robbery after leaving the restaurant, where Jeshua Sammons had allegedly just assaulted and robbed another man, Sgt. Kevin Fair said. Bilal Freeman allegedly robbed Mayers, who pulled his gun during the attack, but never fired it, according to the report. Instead, Sammons fired into the crowd after leaving the restaurant and seeing Mayers being robbed. The bullet struck Miller. Detective Steven Melchiore and detectives of the United States Marshal’s Service arrested Sammons, 20, on Friday in the 600 block of Arkansas Avenue, Fair said. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and robbery. Freeman, 22, surrendered earlier this week. He is charged with robbery. Both men were taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call police at 609-347-5788. Information may also be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411) beginning the text with ACPD. https://breakingac.com/atlantic-city-police-investigating-second-shooting-in-less-than-24-hours/
