Man in Pleasantville standoff now charged with killing girlfriend

  • News

The Camden man at the center of a standoff with Pleasantville police is now charged in the killing of his girlfriend.
Junior English II, 29, is accused of shooting 37-year-old Lateemah Leavy in the head inside their Camden home Sunday.
English then apparently drove to Pleasantville, where he called 911 to say his girlfriend was not breathing.
By then, he was in his car parked outside the Family Dollar off Delilah Road.
After about three hours, English ran from the car while brandishing a gun at police.
He then ran into the woods, refusing orders to drop his weapon, according to the report. He headed toward the Sassafras Run apartments. Police caught up with him and he eventually surrendered.
The gun he had was unloaded at the time, according to police.
It was a match with ballistic evidence found at the murder scene, according to the affidavit obtained by BreakingAC.
English remains in the Atlantic County Justice Facility on weapons offenses.
He has a detention hearing scheduled for Thursday.
