Car takes down Hamilton Township traffic signal utility pole

  • News

Traffic on Route 40 in Hamilton Township was diverted for 15 hours after a car crashed into a utility pole just after midnight Saturday.

Daniel Sabat, 36, of Mays Landing, was heading west on Route 40 at New York Avenue at about 12:25 a.m., when his 2019 Volkswagen Jetta left the road and struck a traffic signal and utility pole, causing both to fall into the roadway along with electrical wires, police said.

Both lanes of travel were closed due to the downed electrical wires.

Sabat was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus in Galloway Township by Hamilton Township EMS for moderate injuries.

The N.J. Department of Transportation responded to the scene and diverted traffic for about 15 hours.

Atlantic City Electric, and fire companies from Mays Landing, Cologne and Laureldale responded to the scene.

Sabat was issued a summons for careless driving.
