An Egg Harbor Township man pleaded guilty to his part in a brutal jail beating, and to the charges that landed him in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in the first place.
Gerone Foster, 28, had been jailed since Dec. 28, 2023, after an investigation by Pleasantville police into a ShotSpotter alert led to his arrest.
The alert recorded nine shots fired in the area of Glendale Avenue on Dec. 27, 2023, according to the report.
Police arrived to find a spent shell casing on the north side of West Glendale Avenue, near a residence where a person was shouting.
A witness told police five rounds were fired. Other witnesses gave more information that helped identify Foster and the vehicle in which he fled, the report states.
It was discovered that Foster frequented the area of East Groveland Avenue in Somers Point, which is where police there found the suspect vehicle parked.
A warranted search of the vehicle the next day recovered a spent shell casing directly behind the driver's seat, and a loaded Glock semi-automatic handgun inside a pillow case under the vehicle's hood.
Foster was soon found and arrested.
While in the jail, Foster and several other inmates beat a fellow inmate June 28 of last year. It was captured on video surveillance.
Foster and one of his co-defendants, Yahsin Cheeks, is shown "striking the victim multiple times with a chair," according to the affidavit of probable cause previously reported by BreakingAC.
In exchange for his plea, the state will recommend a seven-year sentence with 42 months of parole ineligibility. Foster has served 15 months at this time.
